Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha's monsoon session will start from July 17 amid a political crisis within the Nationalist Congress Party after party leader Ajit Pawar joined hands with Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government. The monsoon session will start from July 17 and will continue till August 14, for a period of 15 days. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Advisory Committee was held today to decide the work of the Monsoon session starting from July 17. This will be the first legislative session to be convened after a spilt in the NCP.  

On June 25, Ajit Pawar took the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Shinde cabinet while eight other party leaders including Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil and others were sworn-in as the cabinet ministers. On Thursday, the Sharad Pawar camp called for a national executive meeting in the national capital. 

The meeting came just a day after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said he aspired to become the CM of the state and also took a jibe at Sharad Pawar asking his 83-year-old uncle when he will retire from active politics.

On Wednesday, Sharad Pawar said that the NCP poll symbol of the clock will remain with him and no one can snatch it. This comment came after rebel NCP leader Ajit Pawar approached the Election Commission and staked claim to the party name and poll symbol.

In its letter to the Election Commission, the rebel NCP faction mentioned that Ajit Pawar was the national president of the party and not Sharad Pawar, sources told ABP News. Ajit Pawar, who has said he has the backing of more than 35 MLAs, also staked claim to the Nationalist Congress Party name and party symbol.

Meanwhile, the Ajit Pawar-led faction said that the meeting had no sanctity. 

“It is learnt from various media reports that Sharad Pawar has called a meeting of the National Executive/National Working Committee/National Office Bearers/State Party Presidents of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today in New Delhi,” a statement on behalf of Ajit Pawar said.

“Ajit Pawar has been elected as the National President of NCP on 30.06.2023 with the overwhelming support of the majority of elected representatives of NCP as well as the members working on different organizational post,” the statement added.
