Maharashtra Unlock: Covid Restrictions To Ease In Mumbai From Monday; Check What's Allowed, What's Not

As per the fresh guidelines issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai which is categorised under level 3 will see the following relaxations from Monday:

Mumbai: As Maharashtra is set to resume economic activities with Covid cases gradually going down, the financial capital from Monday also witness relaxations listed under level 3 of the 'unlock' plan.

As per the state government's 5-level unlock plan, municipal corporations and districts in Maharashtra with a positivity rate between 5 percent and 10 percent and occupancy of oxygen beds over 40 percent are categorised under level 3.

According to the fresh guidelines issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai categorised under level 3 will see the following relaxations from Monday:

  • Local Trains: The ‘life line’ of Mumbai - its local trains will remain available only for specific categories. Earlier, the Maharashtra government had stated that local trains will remain available for "medical, few essentials and women", but the civic administrations were authorised to put additional restrictions.

    So, the reference of "women" was deleted by the BMC in its latest order informing that entry in suburban trains will be restricted only for “medical and few essentials”.
  • Shops Reopen But Malls Shut: Restaurants, shops selling non-essential items and public places are set to reopen but malls, theatres and multiplexes will continue to remain shut.

  • Shop Timings: As per the BMC order, shops selling essential products in Mumbai can remain open till 4 pm on all days. However, non-essential shops can operate till 4 pm on weekdays only.

  • Restaurants in Mumbai have been permitted to function at 50 percent capacity for dining till 4 pm only on weekdays. Parcel, home delivery and takeaway services will continue.

  • Public Places & Offices: Public places and open grounds in Mumbai can remain open from 5 am to 9 am every day. Private offices can function at 50 percent capacity till 4 pm on working days. Public offices are also allowed to function at 50 percent capacity.

  • Outdoor sports activities have been allowed from 5 am to 9 am and then from 6 pm to 9 pm. Indoor activities not allowed.

  • Shootings have been allowed in Mumbai keeping a bubble. No activities after 5 pm.

  • Gatherings: 50 percent attendance has been allowed in social, cultural or entertainment-related gatherings. 50 people can attend marriages, 20 people can be present at a funeral.

  • Gym, salons, beauty and wellness centres (Spas) are allowed to operate on a 50 percent capacity based on appointments only. No A/Cs allowed

  • Buses allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity with no standing passengers.

  • Inter-district travel for passengers by private car/taxi/bus/long-distance trains are allowed. Pass required if the destination is at level 5 lockdown.

  • Only on-site labour allowed at construction sites, all labours must leave by 4 p.m.

  • Agricultural activities allowed to operate till 4 p.m. on all days.

On Saturday, Mumbai reported 863 Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths, taking its case tally to 7,09,857 and the toll to 14,951.

Ahead of this, Mumbai recorded a positivity rate of 5.56 percent and oxygen bed occupancy rate of 32.51 percent for the May 28 to June 3 week.

The lockdown-like restrictions in Maharashtra were imposed in April this year which are being gradually relaxed now under the five-level unlock plan wherein each municipal area and district will be treated as a separate administrative unit.
