Maharashtra: Man Threatens To Set Off 'Bomb' At Bank Unless Paid Rs 55 Lakh In 15 Mins, Here's What Happened Next

A bank branch in Wardha in Maharashtra was the scene of an intense drama after a masked man walked in and threatened to set off a bomb unless payment of Rs 55 lakh was made in 15 minutes.

Wardha: A normal day took a dramatic turn at a bank branch in Maharashtra’s Wardha when a masked man walked in and handed over a note claiming that he intended to set off a bomb that he was carrying unless payment of Rs 55 lakh was made in 15 minutes, the police said on Saturday.

The incident took place at a bank in Sevagram on Friday afternoon, a police official revealed, adding that the said note claimed the "suicide bomber" was suffering from a terminal ailment and needed the money to pay exorbitant medical bills.

"He told the bank staffers that he had nothing to lose by setting off the bomb. The bank is situated just opposite our police station and the staffers managed to alert us even as the accused was going about threatening them," he said.

The “suicide bomber” was arrested and the bomb was found to be a fake one. It had a digital watch and six pipes filled with plaster of Paris wired together.

Along with it, a knife and an air pistol were also recovered, the official said.

"He has been identified as Yogesh Kubade, who runs a cyber cafe. He was trying to pull off this stunt to repay loans, and ordered the items to create his fake bomb online," said sub-inspector Ganesh Saykar.

The Sevagram police station official informed that a case has been registered in this regard and a further probe was underway.
