Maharashtra Reports 2,813 COVID Cases, Highest In Four Months. Mumbai Sees Slight Dip
With the new cases, Mumbai's caseload rose to 10,75,243, while the death toll went up to 19,570.
New Delhi: Maharashtra on Thursday logged 2,813 new Covid-19 cases, highest in four months, and one fatality, the state health department said. The fresh infections took the number of active cases in the state to 11,571, news agency PTI reported. State capital Mumbai reported a marginal drop in infections with 1,702 cases, 63 less than the previous day, and the lone death during the day, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
With the new cases, Mumbai's caseload rose to 10,75,243, while the death toll went up to 19,570. The city recorded a death linked to the virus after a gap of four days, BMC added.
The daily rise in Covid cases in Maharashtra was the highest since February 15 when 2,831 infections had come to light.
The fresh infections took the caseload to 79,01,628, and death toll to 1,47,867.
Mumbai’s Covid positivity rate stands at 9.64 per cent, BMC said.
A total of 17,648 tests were carried out in the city on Thursday, which took the cumulative test count to 1,72,44,826.
Out of the 1,702 new patients, 1,624 are asymptomatic, while 78 symptomatic patients have been admitted to hospitals. Out of them, seven patients are on oxygen support, the bulletin said, adding that of the 24,603 hospital beds, 323 beds are currently occupied.
According to reports, Maharashtra had clocked 2,701 fresh Covid cases and zero fatality on Wednesday.
It is to be noted that with the surge in Covid-19 across the country, the health ministry is constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation in four states, including Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, and Karnataka.
The health ministry has instructed the said states to employ a five-fold strategy - test-track-treat-vaccine and adherence to Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour is required.
