Maharashtra ATS Arrests 5 Bangladesh Nationals From Navi Mumbai For Illegal Residency
Maharashtra ATS arrested five Bangladeshi from Navi Mumbai for staying in India without valid documents.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested five Bangladeshi nationals from Navi Mumbai for residing in the country without valid documents, officials said on Saturday, according to PTI. The operation, led by the Vikhroli unit (Mumbai) of the ATS, was carried out at two locations in Ghansoli on Friday.
"Acting on a tip-off, the ATS led the operation and arrested five Bangladeshis, who were found living in India without valid documents. They were nabbed from Janai Compound and near Shivaji Talao, both in Ghansoli," a police official told the news agency.
The accused, Aahat Jamal Sheikh, 22, Rebul Samad Sheikh, 40, Ronney Soriful Khan, 25, Julu Billal Sharif, 28 and Mohammad Munir Mohammad Siraj Mulla, 49, are from two districts in Bangladesh. They were employed as masons in Navi Mumbai.
The five were arrested under provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, following a complaint lodged by a police sub-inspector attached to the ATS. The Rabale police in Navi Mumbai filed an FIR and detained the individuals, as per the official's statement. The case is currently under investigation.

Earlier this month, the ATS had arrested two Bangladeshi nationals for illegally staying in India from Navi Mumbai. The two persons, both aged 24, were apprehended from Khidukpada village at Nadve in Panvel, as per PTI.
An ATS team, during an inspection of the Khidukpada locality, found the two persons residing in a chawl (row tenement). During questioning, they failed to provide any valid documents for their entry into the country. The two persons, however, possessed Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards and driving licenses in their names the news agency reported.
A case was registered against them under the Passport (Entry into India) Rules 1950 and the Foreigners Act. The police had initiated a probe into the matter to ascertain their activities and any potential links to illegal immigration networks.
