Maharashtra: 6-month-old miraculously survives Bhiwandi building collapse

MUMBAI: A six-month-old baby survived miraculously when a building collapsed in Bhiwandi town on Sunday. The infant, identified as Abdul Rehman Momin, was trapped under a slab of the collapsed structure but remained unhurt. At least eight people were killed and 22 were injured when a two-storey dilapidated building collapsed on Sunday morning. Infant's mother, Sofia Momin, was killed in the mishap. According to reports, the infant is being treated at Bhiwandi's Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital. The two-storey structure, housing 7 to 8 families, at Gaibi Nagar under Shanti Nagar police station limits, crashed around 9.30 AM. Initially, five persons had died in the incident, but the toll rose after more bodies were pulled out from the debris. The local municipal corporation had earlier declared the building as hazardous for occupation, but the families continued to live there, locals told media persons. (With input from agencies)
