LIVE: Jayalalithaa's funeral to be performed at 4:30 pm, mortal remains brought to Rajaji hall in Chennai

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who passed away on Monday night after a bitter 74-day battle for life, was laid to rest at the Marina Beach here on Tuesday.

• PM Modi arrived in Chennai to pay last tributes to J Jayalalithaa. President Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and condoled Jaya’s demise.  President Mukherjee on Tuesday said, "Jayalalithaa was a fighter and she fought till the end".
• PM Modi and President Mukherjee left for Chennai to attend Jaya's last rites. But, President Mukherjee's plane returned to Delhi after it developed a technical snag mid-way

• Security has been beefed up in Tamil Nadu, and especially in Chennai where Jaya’s last rites shall be performed

• After Jaya was declared dead, she was taken to her residence Poes garden, where thousands of her followers were present. Jaya was later taken Rajaji hall, where her followers can come and give her homage

 

• Jaya’s last rites will be performed at 4:30 pm on Tuesday evening in Chennai

• Her followers were seen broken down and sobbing after her demise, people across the country can be seen in grief and deep shock

• Amma’s followers yearn to take last glimpse of her at Rajaji hall, gather in huge number, the security has been increased for the same

 

• Jayalalithaa will be accorded state funeral. Flags will be flown at half mast. And no ceremonial functions will be organized
