Weather Update: North India Wakes Up To Dense Fog Today, Rains Predicted In Eastern, Central Regions
Isolated heavy rainfall looks very likely over Odisha including northeast regions on Thursday while wet spell expected over east and adjoining central region till Friday, according to IMD predictions
New Delhi: Northern states in the country woke up to dense fog on Thursday that affected the visibility in several areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In an official account, the weather department tweeted, “Fog observed at 530 AM in isolated pockets over Punjab and UP; Dense fog in isolated pockets over Delhi(Palam), Bihar and Tripura and Moderate fog in isolated pockets over Delhi (Safdarjung), North Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh.

Moderate fog is likely over the next few days.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Odisha on Thursday, according to the weather department. The IMD predicted a wet spell over the east and adjoining central region till January 14th and over the northeast regions till January 13.
This will be caused due to western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Rajasthan in lower & middle tropospheric levels and the presence of induced cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh in lower tropospheric levels, said the met department.
“Western Disturbance (WD) would affect northwest Himalayan Region on 16th & 17th and 2nd WD to affect Northwest India from January 18-20,” said the IMD.
Meanwhile, cold wave conditions in isolated pockets are very likely over Punjab, north Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
“Cold to severe cold conditions in some pockets over West Madhya Pradesh and in isolated pockets over East Madhya Pradesh during next two days and cold day conditions in isolated pockets very likely over Gujarat state during next 24 hours and over Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh and north Rajasthan during next two days, “ said the IMD in its weather bulletin.

On Wednesday, Delhi's minimum temperature increased marginally due to partly cloudy sky and settled at 8.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 18.1 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, as per PTI report.
Over the last three days, Delhi has seen a sharp decline in the minimum temperature due to cold northwesterly winds which commenced after the withdrawal of a western disturbance.
