Arnab Episode To Shinde Jibe: 5 Times When Kunal Kamra Landed In Soup Over Political Comedy
Comedian Kunal Kamra faces controversy after mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, causing protests and vandalism.

Comedian Kunal Kamra has once again hit the headlines after his jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for splitting Shiv Sena and aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The sketch, titled 'Naya Bharat' was uploaded on YouTube on Sunday sparking outrage and protests by workers of the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena.
The workers vandalised the venue where the show took place and lodged an FIR against the comedian, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
However, this is not the first time when the comedian has courted controversy.
Arnab Goswami Episode
In 2020, Kamra had shared a video of him heckling journalist Arnab Goswami on an Indigo flight from Mumbai to Lucknow. In a two-minute video uploaded by him on his Twitter account, Kamra was heard asking the scribe: "Here, I am asking coward Arnab about his journalism and he is doing exactly what I expected him to do.”
Goswami, however, kept quiet during the entire episode.
After the video went viral, an investigation was launched into the incident following which IndiGo imposed a six-month ban on Kamra, terming his act a Level 1 offence. Later, the ban was reduced to three months.
Other airlines including Air India, SpiceJet, and GoAir also took similar action barring him from travelling on their flights.
Spat With Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal
Kamra recently criticised Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal on social media saying the company has failed to address increasing customer grievances and unresolved refund issues, among other issues.
The two involved in a heated exchange earlier as well after Kamra observation about a buildup of Ola Electric scooters outside what seemed to be an Ola store. Responding to Kamra, Aggarwal said, "If you're so concerned, why don't you help? If not, shut up and let us fix real customer issues.”
Jokes On Salman Khan
Earlier this month, the comedian sparked a row as he joked about Bollywood actor Salman Khan during one of his stand-up shows. Kamra joked about Khan's involvement in two major legal cases, the 1998 blackbuck poaching case and the 2002 hit-and-run case.
Amid reports that Salman Khan was planning to file a defamation case against Kamra, the comedian said he would not apologise for his jokes.
Objectionable Remark For CJI
In 2020, Kamra landed in another controversy after he mocked the then Chief Justice of India, Sharad Arvind Bobde on social media. Sharing a photo on X, Kamra said, “One of these fingers is for CJI Bobde…ok let me not confuse you it’s the middle one,” along with a picture of two figures. The post came after Arnab Goswami was granted interim bail in a 2018 abetment to suicide case.
Attorney General KK Venugopal filed contempt proceedings against Kamra for obscene and derogatory comments against the CJI.
Comment On Supreme Court
A plea was filed against Kamra in May 2020 for his remark that the Supreme Court was a ‘Brahmin-Baniya’ affair in his show ‘Be Like’. The petition was filed as an intervention application in an already pending contempt of court against him.
Child's 'Morphed' Video'
The comedian landed in soup again after he shared an edited video of a seven-year-old boy singing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Germany. In the video, the boy sang ‘Hey Janmabhoomi Bharat’, which was replaced with the 2010 movie Peepli Live’s famous number ‘Mehengayi daayan khaaye jaat hai’.
The father's boy lashed out at Kamra and asked him to keep his child away from his “filthy politics”. He later deleted the video.
