Kirti Azad Could Join TMC Today In Presence Of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee
Kirti Azad News: Senior Congress leader Kirti Azad may join Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) today. Sources reveal that Kirti Azad has been in touch with TMC leaders.
New Delhi: After its massive victory in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been extending its reach at the pan-India level. Now there is news that former MP and Congress leader Kirti Azad is likely to join the TMC on Tuesday.
According to sources, former Darbhanga MP Kirti Azad is to join TMC in party chief Mamata Banerjee's presence. The West Bengal chief minister is on a three-day visit to the national capital. The sources suggested that Kirti Azad has been in touch with TMC leaders.
Joined Congress After Leaving BJP
Kirti Azad had moved to the Congress party from the BJP after he openly criticised the then finance minister Arun Jaitley over alleged irregularities in Delhi's cricketing body, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). He was expelled by the party for his rebellion against Jaitley.
Azad, a member of the 1983 cricket World Cup-winning team, has meen a Lok Sabha MP from Bihar's Darbhanga for three terms. He had contested from the Darbhanga seat during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and won. Prior to that, he was elected as an MP from the same seat in 1999 and 2009.
Kirti Azad's Wife Also Quit BJP In 2017
In 2017, Kirti Azad's wife Poonam Azad quit the BJP and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. She then joined the Congress in 2018. She had been a BJP spokesperson for a long time, and also the vice-president of the party's Delhi unit.
