1 Arrested With Chinese Grenade, AK‑47 Rifle Rounds In Kashmir's Bandipora
The personnel from the 27 Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a naka checking operation at Ketsun Binlipora, during which the suspect was intercepted.
In a significant development in counter-insurgency efforts, security forces on Saturday apprehended an Over Ground Worker (OGW) and seized arms and ammunition from his possession during a joint operation in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According to officials, personnel from the 27 Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a naka checking operation at Ketsun Binlipora, during which the suspect was intercepted. The individual, identified as Bashir Ahmad, 48, a resident of Halmatpora, Aloosa, was found carrying a Chinese-made grenade and 11 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
“A case has been registered at Police Station Bandipora, and further investigations are in progress,” a senior police officer stated.
Facial Recognition System Helps With Identifying OGW
In a separate incident on Friday evening, the Facial Recognition System (FRS) employed by District Police Anantnag proved instrumental in identifying another OGW at the Langanbal checkpoint around 5:00 PM. The individual, a carpenter hailing from Seer Hamdan under the jurisdiction of Police Station Mattan, was found to have a prior case registered against him in 2005. He was promptly taken into custody and handed over to Police Station Pahalgam for further legal procedures.
