Kangana Ranaut Reacts After BJP Again Distances Itself From Farm Laws Remarks

Kangana Ranaut, the BJP's MP from Himachal's Mandi, clarified that her views on the repealed farm laws are personal and not representative of the party's stance.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut has affirmed that her controversial comments on the scrapped farmers' laws were personal and don't represent the party's stand on the issue. Reacting to BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia's assertion that she is not "authorised" to make such statements, Kangana said: "Absolutely, my views on farmers' laws are personal and they don’t represent [the] party’s stand on those Bills. Thanks."

A video of Kangana Ranaut's interview went viral on Tuesday. In the clip, she could be heard saying that the three contentious farm laws, which were scrapped in 2020 after massive country-wide protests, should be brought back. The Mandi MP from Himachal Pradesh appealed to farmers that they should demand the laws to be brought back as they were for their welfare.

In the interview, Kangana said: "The repealed farm laws should be brought back. This could be controversial, but I feel the pro-farmers' laws should be enforced again. In fact, farmers should themselves demand that the laws be brought back. This would ensure there is no hindrance in the development of farmers."

Kangana also said that farmers in only a few states had protested and urged them to demand for the laws to be brought back.

What The BJP Said On Kangana Ranaut's Farm Laws Remark

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that Kangana Ranaut's statement on the farm laws, which the central government later withdrew, were her personal views. "I want to make it clear that the remarks were her personal statements. Kangana Ranaut is not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of BJP and it doesn't depict BJP's view on the farm bills. We disapprove of this statement," Bhatia said.

Earlier, Kangana was reprimanded by the BJP high command for her unsubstantiated comments on the farmers' protests. She had then said that "bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place" during the farmers' protest in 2020-21.
