16-Year-Old Kaamya Karthikeyan Summits Mount Everest, Becomes Youngest Indian To Do So
The Indian Navy lauds Kaamya Karthikeyan's remarkable courage and determination as she continues her journey to conquer the highest peaks on all seven continents.
New Delhi: The Indian Navy congratulated Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old class XII student from Navy Children School in Mumbai, for becoming the youngest Indian and the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side. In a remarkable father-daughter feat, Kaamya and her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, successfully reached the 8849-meter summit on May 20.

Kaamya has already achieved the incredible feat of summiting six of these peaks, showcasing her unwavering resolve. The Navy extends its best wishes to Kaamya as she sets her sights on scaling Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica later this year, aiming to become the youngest girl to complete the Seven Summits Challenge.

In February 2020, while hosting Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that young Kaamya Karthikeyan is an inspiration for everyone.
Later, in January 2021, PM Modi virtually interacted with the young mountaineer, then a 13-year-old on a mission to climb the highest peaks in all continents and ski to the North and South poles, reported IANS.
"May she achieve greater heights. Congratulations on being awarded the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar", said PM Modi after the interaction.
