CJI Dipak Misra farewell speech: 'Indian judiciary strongest, most robust in the world'

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra held court for the last time on Monday. On his last working day in office, Justice Misra praised the Indian judiciary as the "most robust institution" in the world. "Our judiciary has been strongest judiciary in the world having capability to handle mind boggling number of cases," PTI quoted Justice Misra as saying during a farewell event.
The outgoing CJI, who delivered several historic verdict last week, said, "Justice must have human face".
"History can be sometimes kind, and unkind. I don't judge people by their history but by their activities, perspective," the CJI said.
"In my whole career as a judge, I never dissociated myself from the lady of equity," Justice Misra said.
"I am indebted to Bar at every level and go from here with satisfaction, he added.
Chief Justice of India-Designate, Justice Ranjan Gogoi also lauded the outgoing CJI Dipak Misra saying that his greatest contribution has been to civil liberties. Justice Gogoi, who will take oath as the new Chief Justice of India on October 3, also cited some of Justice Misra's verdicts.
"If we fail in endeavour to hold true to our Constitutional ideals, we will continue to kill, hate each other," Justice Gogoi said.
Some of the major verdict delivered by Justice Misra include upholding the Centre's flagship scheme Aadhaar with certain riders and decriminalising consensual gay sex and adultery, judgements in the Koregaon-Bhima violence case and allowing all women entry into the Sabarimala temple.
