'Just Want...': Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Says She Is Not Interested In PM Post
Addressing TMC's Martyr's Day rally in Kolkata, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that she is not interested in the post of Prime Minister.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that she is not interested in the PM post but just wants the BJP regime to go. Addressing a gathering at TMC's annual Martyr's Day rally, she said that she has no ambition for any chair but is just willing to fight against the BJP rule to dethrone it. This comes after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also clarified that they have no interest in the Prime Minister's seat.
"We don't want any chair, we just want this BJP regime to go," PTI quoted he CM as saying.
Kharge said that Congress is fighting to save democracy and secularism in the country which has brought all like-minded parties together on one platform.
Earlier, posters and banners attacking Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were put up at Bengaluru's Chalukya Circlre, Windsor Manor Bridge and on the Airport road near Hebbal. Notably, all the Opposition party leaders gathered for a dinner meeting at Bengaluru's Taj West End Hotel where they came for the mega opposition meeting.
Opposition parties discussed strategies to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party and build a strong front against the saffron party in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Opposition leaders on Tuesday slammed the BJP and its NDA allies for allegedly threatening the values and democracy of India. The united Opposition, now called INDIA, or Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, met on Tuesday to decide on key issues in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was attended by 26 Opposition parties. The convener for the united Opposition at the next meeting in Mumbai, said Congress president Mallikatjun Kharge.
At a press briefing after the meeting, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday challenged the NDA, asking if it can defeat I-N-D-I-A, the alliance of the Opposition. "Can you challenge India? Our campaign will be under the banner of I-N-D-I-A. Catch us if you can," she said. She also accused the BJP of "buying and selling" the country and its democracy. "They [BJP] don't let any independent agency do its work. If anyone supports or speaks in favour of the Opposition, the ED or CBI will be at their doorstep the very next day.
