J&K: Encounter breaks out in Shopian; 2 terrorists killed
The joint operation was launched by Army's 34RR and SOG.
Jammu and Kashmir: An encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Gahand area of South Kashmir’s Shopian on Saturday morning. As per sources, 2 terrorists have been killed. Encounter broke out when an exchange of fire took place when the officials were on a cordon and search operation.
Following specific information about militant presence, a joint operation was launched by Army's 34RR and SOG. As the security forces tightened the cordon, the hiding militants fired triggering the encounter.
The area has been cordoned off. More details on the same are awaited.
This comes days after four militants belonging to a combined group of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfits, were killed, while three army jawans and a policeman injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama districton April 1.
Acting on a credible input about the presence of militants in Lassipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there this morning, a police spokesperson said.
He said during the searches, the militants fired upon the search party of the forces, who retaliated.
He said in the initial exchange of firing, three army jawans and one policeman sustained injuries.
