Jharkhand: 2 Dead, 8 Injured As Cable Cars On Ropeway Collide In Deoghar. 42 Still Stuck In Cabins

Teams of Indian Army, Indian Air Force, ITBP, and NDRF have been deployed for the rescue operation.

New Delhi: Six persons have been rescued while 42 are still trapped as ITBP and NDRF are carrying out the the rescue operation in Jharkhand's Deoghar district where some cable cars on a ropeway collided with each other at Trikut Hills close to Baba Baidyanath Temple, as per ABP News sources. 

Two women were killed in the mishap while 8 were injured after the cable cars collided on a ropeway on Sunday. Two Mi-17 helicopters are invloved in rescuing people stuck in the cabins on the ropeway, an Indian Air Force official said, reported news agency ANI.

 

 

An official said that prima facie, the incident appeared to have occured due to some technical fault resulting in collision of cable cars adding that the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, reported news agency PTI. 

A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed at the spot for the rescue operations, Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said adding that the local villagers were also assisting the team. 

Meanwhile, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey said that he has briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh about the mishap, and has also requested deployment of NDRF teams. 

As per Jharkhand Tourism, the Trikut ropeway is India's highest vertical ropeway with a maximum lens angle of 44 degrees. The ropeway, situated around 20 km from Baba Baidyanath Temple, is around 766-metres-long, while the hill is 392-metres-high.

There are 25 cabins in the ropeway. Four people can sit in each cabin.
