Jammu & Kashmir: Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's Kashmir Chief Saifullah Mir Shot Dead In Srinagar Encounter; Operation Underway

Jammu & Kashmir force killed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's Kashmir chief, Saifullah Mir aka Ghazi Haider in an encounter

In yet another encounter between the security forces and militants in Srinagar on Sunday, the Jammu & Kashmir unit killed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's Kashmir chief, Saifullah Mir aka Ghazi Haider. The police called the operation "a major success against militancy". According to the sources, the encounter is still underway at Srinagar. Police and CRPF personnel are engaged in the operation. The Kashmir IG further confirmed the incident to news agency ANI saying, "We got info last night about a terrorist present at a house in Srinagar. Operation was launched and during encounter today, he was killed. We're 95 per cent certain that he's Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Commander. One suspect arrested. It's a great achievement of our security forces."

The sources informed that the security forces upon receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in Rangreth quickly sealed off the area and launched a search operation against the terrorists in the valley, which is still underway. While Saifullah has been shot dead, one suspect was arrested in Rawalpora encounter. Though the gunfight is over, the search is still on. It is pertinent to mention here that the 31-year-old Saifullah was the last surviving militant from the Burhan Wani terror group, who had taken over as Hizbul Mujahideen Chief after Reyaz Naikoo was killed in May.
