Encounter Underway In J&K's Rajouri, 1 Terrorist Killed

An encounter is underway in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, during which one terrorist was killed.

One terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in the Bariyama area of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Sunday. The encounter between terrorists and the Indian Army in the district entered day 2 on Sunday. The police have advised people living in the area to stay at a distance of at least 2 kilometres for their safety, as per a PTI report. The Army has cordoned off the area to carry out their encounter in which the Indian Army Para Commandos have also joined. 

The Additional Director of General of Police while speaking to the media said that the terrorist is yet to be identified, but as per his belongings it is suspected to be a Pakistani terrorist. He further said that the encounter is still underway as another terrorist is suspected to be present in the area. They recovered his bag which contained arms and ammunition. So far, one AK47, 2 pistols, magazines, ammunition, cash and other material have been seized.

Police in Rajouri issued an advisory on Sunday, asking people to stay away from the encounter scene to avoid any casualty.

"It is for the information of all that the operation is in progress with exchange of crossfire in the general area of village Gundha, Khawas. People are advised not to visit the area and remain at a safe distance of at least two km outside the periphery of the area," the advisory read, as per PTI.

On Saturday, an unidentified terrorist was killed during an exchange of fire with the security forces during the cordon-and-search operation launched by police and the Army at Gundha-Khawas village in the Budhal area. The body of the slain terrorist was yet to be retrieved from the scene of the encounter.

As per PTI, all escape routes have been plugged for the terrorists by the reinforcements of the security force, efforts are on to neutralise all of them.

The search began after police received information about the terrorist movement in the area. The operation was launched by a small police team and later reinforcements from the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) joined them.

On Friday, police informed that three jawans got injured in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, they later succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile, police apprehended three terrorist associates linked with the proscribed terror outfit 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) in the Natipora area of Srinagar.
