This comes days after timely action and detection of powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by officials helped avert a major tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. On Sunday, Sept 3, officials said the IED, which was planted inside a tiffin box, was found lying on the roadside by the army’s road opening party at Sangpur village along the Jammu-Poonch National Highway early morning, reported news agency PTI. The officials later suspended traffic on the busy highway and called a bomb disposal squad to destroy the explosive substance in a controlled mechanism without causing any damage.
After the incident, a case was registered by the police and an investigation was launched to identify and arrest the suspected terrorists, who planted the IED on the highway to trigger an explosion, said the officials.
A week before this, security personnel defused an IED, which was also planted by suspected terrorists on the Jammu-Srinagar National highway on the outskirts of Jammu's capital city. Superintendent of Police from rural Jammu Rahul Charak said that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was also called on the spot after the police received information about a suspicious object lying near the highway.
Earlier in August, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was found in Jammu's Nagrota was defused without causing any damage, officials said. "We received information about a suspicious object lying near the highway. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called and an IED was found. The IED has been destroyed by the team," SP Rural Jammu, Rahul Charak said.
