New Delhi: Pakistan army on Wednesday morning violated ceasefire along the line of control in the Peer Bhadereswar area of Rajouri district. Heavy firing is underway at the LoC, and as per the reports, the Indian side is retaliating effectively.
Even last evening, Pakistan troops violated the ceasefire by targeting forward posts with mortar shells and small arms along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, a defence spokesperson said. The cross-border firing by Pakistan started at about 6.30 pm and ended at 8.00 pm, he said. The Indian Army retaliated befittingly, the spokesperson said.

Earlier last week, an Army personnel was killed in Pakistani Army firing along the LoC Rajouri district on Friday, prompting strong retaliation from the Indian side, officials said. The killing of Naik Rajib Thapa, 34, raised the death toll in the cross-border firing in the past week to four -- three soldiers and one civilian.
Amid escalated tension following the frequent border skirmishes, a top Army commander Friday visited forward bases in Poonch and Akhnoor sectors along the LoC and expressed satisfaction on measures adopted to strengthen the counter infiltration posture with increased alertness. General Officer Commanding, Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh appreciated the aggressive domination of the LoC adopted to give a befitting response to adversary's ceasefire violations and tactical actions.
He exhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter the nefarious designs of the adversary.
