10 Grenades, 5 Rocket Shells, AK 47 Rifle Recovered As J&K Police Unearth Militant Hideout In Kupwara

A police official familiar with the matter said a search was conducted by the police team in the Shalnar Hangnikoot region of Handwara in north Kashmir a day earlier on Saturday.

A Jammu and Kashmir police team unearthed a militant hideout in the Kupwara district of the Union Territory on Sunday. The police said they recovered arms and ammunition from the hideout.

According to news agency PTI, a police official familiar with the matter said a search was conducted by the police team in the Shalnar Hangnikoot region of Handwara in north Kashmir a day earlier on Saturday.

The official stated arms and ammunition were unearthed during a search operation in the area. 

The recovered items included an AK 47 rifle with two magazines and 75 rounds, 10 grenades, 26 UBGL grenades, eight UBGL boosters, two flame throwers, five rocket shells and three rocket boosters, as reported by PTI.

The police have registered a case under the required sections of the law and a probe is underway currently.

Last week on March 7, the Jammu and Kashmir police recovered a large number of arms and ammunition from one of the arrests they made.

Two militant associates of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (TRF) were arrested at Kunzer in North Kashmir's Baramulla district for allegedly possessing arms and ammunition, an official release from Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Tuesday last week, as per ANI.

According to the press release, the police recovered a large number of arms and ammunition which included two AK 47 Magazines- 2 No’s, 15 AK 47 rounds, and 20 Blank posters of banned LeT (TRF).

The forces of Baramulla Police and 176 Battalion CRPF jointly launched a search operation in Monchkhud village of Kunzer following specific information regarding the presence of terrorists.

During the search, two suspected persons were apprehended and identified as Khurshid Ahmad Khan, and Reyaz Ahmad Khan- both residents of Zandpal Kunzer.

During questioning, both suspects revealed that they work as terrorist associates with the banned terrorist outfit LeT (TRF). The two were taken into custody immediately.

The police also revealed that the terrorist associates obtained this illegal ammunition with the intent to carry out terrorist activities in Kunzer and adjacent areas. 

As per the release, a case under sections of the Arms and UA (P) Act stands registered in Police station Kunzer and an investigation is set in motion.
