J&K Weather: Srinagar Experiences Hottest June Since 1978, Qazigund Warmest In Over 50 Years

The only hotter June on record for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was in 1978, when the overall average temperature reached 25.0 degrees Celsius.

Jammu and Kashmir experienced recording-breaking heat in June, with Srinagar recording its hottest June since 1978 and second hottest on record since weather observations began in 1892. Qazigund also witnessed its warmest June in over five decades.

The average maximum temperature for June 2025 stood at 31.0 degrees Celsius, while the mean minimum settled at 18.2 degrees Celsius, resulting in an overall average temperature of 24.6 degrees.

The only hotter June on record for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was in 1978, when the overall average temperature reached 25.0 degrees Celsius. The higher mean maximum was recorded at 32.9 degrees Celsius, although the mean minimum that year was lower at 17.1 degrees.

Notably, 2008 still holds the record for the highest mean minimum temperature in the city in June at 18.3 degrees Celsius, which is slightly higher than this year’s figure. An overall average temperature of 24.6°C, which is the same as 2025, was also logged in 1971 and 1973, placing this year among the top warmest Junes on record.

Qazigund Records Warmest June In 50 Years

Meanwhile, data from another station paints a similarly warm picture as Qazigund saw a mean maximum of 30.3 degrees Celsius and mean minimum of 16.1 degrees Celsius in June, 2025. With an overall average of 23.2 degrees Celsius, the temperature is the highest for the location since 1973, when it averaged 23.7 degrees.

In 1978, Qazigund also saw an average of 23.2 degrees Celsius just like this year. However, the temperature distribution differed slightly with a mean maximum of 30.2 degrees Celsius and mean minimum of 16.2 degrees.

Qazigund’s warmest-ever minimum temperature for June was noted in 1971, at 17.3 degrees, during a month when the overall mean reached 23.3 derees Celsius.
