J-K Govt Revokes Ex-Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s Detention After 7 Months
The National Conference (NC) chairman has been booked under the ‘public order’ provision of the PSA which allows that a person can be kept inside a jail from three to six months without a trial
New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday issued orders revoking the detention of National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and also released him from house arrest, Principal Secretary (Planning) Rohit Kansal said on Friday, 13 March.
National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah had been put under detention in September 2019 following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
“In exercise of powers conferred under Section 19(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, the government hereby revokes the detention order bearing No. DMS/PSA/120/2019 issued by District Magistrate, Srinagar,” a statement issued the government said.
The National Conference (NC) chairman has been booked under the ‘public order’ provision of the PSA which allows that a person can be kept inside a jail from three to six months without a trial. Abdullah had been in detention under the Public Safety Act.
His son and former CM Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti continue to be in detention since August 5.
