Israel Ambassador To India Inaugurates Drip Irrigation System At India Gate On “World Water Day”

Israel Ambassador To India Naor Gilon on World Water Day inaugurated the Drip irrigation system at Children's Park in India Gate to conserve water.

Israel Ambassador to India Naor Gilon on Wednesday inaugurated the Drip irrigation system at Children's Park in India Gate to conserve water in honour of 'World Water Day.' The Ambassador said that they hope to take this method of water saving to all the gardens soon, reported news agency ANI.

"We hope to take this method of drip irrigation in all gardens soon. This is an ongoing project and it will get only bigger. This is one of the best ways to save water. It was invented in Israel. Israel is a world leader in water management. Israel reuses 90% of its water for agriculture," Gilon said.

S Chellaiah, Director (Horticulture), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said that we need to understand the vital role that drip irrigation plays in water conservation. He further said that if the trial of this method is successful then they will be implying this model soon in other NDMC areas as well. "Water conservation is very important across the country and the world. We need to learn to save water and drip irrigation system plays a vital role in this. We have started this initiative of drip irrigation and if the trial is successful, we will take this forward in other NDMC areas," ANI quoted Chllaiah as saying.

Drip irrigation or trickle irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface. It is considered one of the best methods of water conservation.

Israel is a country with one of the most advanced water systems in the world and with an abundance of R&D and innovative technologies in many fields. Israel is helping to provide solutions to the water crisis around the world. Recently, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, the embassy offered its assistance to New Zealand by offering a series of advanced water technologies, including advanced emergency water management and water infrastructure development.
