INX Media Case: Former Union Minister P Chidambaram’s CBI Remand Extended By 4 Days
He was produced in the court on expiry of his four-day CBI custody which was granted to the agency on August 22.
New Delhi: A special CBI court extended the remand of Former Union Minister P Chidambaram by four days in connection with the INX Media corruption case. He will be produced before the court on August 30.
The court pronounced the order after hearing the CBI's plea seeking extension of custodial interrogation of the former finance minister.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar accepted the CBI demand that Chidambaram's custodial interrogation was required.
He was produced in the court on expiry of his four-day CBI custody which was granted to the agency on August 22.
Kuhar had reserved the order on CBI's demand seeking extension of his custody by five days after hearing arguments for nearly 40 minutes on Monday.
Chidambaram was produced in the trial court hours after the Supreme Court refused to entertain his plea challenging the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed his anticipatory bail plea in the corruption case lodged by the CBI.
A Supreme Court bench comprising justices R Banumathi and A S Bopanna said since Chidambaram has been arrested and is already in the CBI custody, his appeal in the case has become infructuous.
The bench said however that Chidambaram is at a liberty to seek remedy in accordance with the law.
Chidambaram, whose CBI custody was supposed to end today, was produced before a trial court where the agency got his further custody.
