INX Media Case: 'Chidambaram Now Part Of Out On Bail Club,' BJP Mocks Congress After SC Decision

Mocking Congress party’s reaction following the SC order, the BJP said that it was a "classic case" of the party celebrating corruption.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, said that former finance minister P Chidambaram who was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the INX Media money laundering case, has joined the “out on bail club”. Mocking Congress party’s reaction following the SC order, the BJP said that it was a "classic case" of the party celebrating corruption. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra  said that Chidamabram now accompanies leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Motilal Vohra, Shashi Tharoor and others, who are a part of the “club”. "Truth finally prevails," Congress hails SC decision The truth has finally prevailed, the Congress said on Wednesday after the Supreme Court gave bail to senior party leader P Chidambaram in the INX-Media money laundering case. Several party leaders welcomed the order granting bail to the former minister, who has been in custody for 105 days, with Chidambaram's lawyer and Congress colleague Abhishek Manu Singhvi describing the ruling as "excellent light after a rather long tunnel". "Truth finally prevails #SatyamevaJayate," tweeted the party from its official handle. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was more circumspect and said "justice delayed is justice denied". The bail should have been granted much earlier, he said. SC granted bail to Chidambaram on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with two surety of like amount. The apex court has, however, said that the Congress leader will not leave the country without prior permission of the court. SC has also restrained P Chidambaram from giving press interviews or making statements with regard to the case. "Order granting bail to P Chidambaram will not have bearing on any other accused in the case," the top court added.
