IndiGo Aircraft Suffers Tail Strike While Landing In Ahmedabad, 2nd Such Incident In A Week

Recently, another IndiGo flight 6E-6183 from Kolkata to Delhi experienced a similar tail strike while landing.

New Delhi: An IndiGo flight from Bengaluru experienced a tail strike while landing in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Thursday, making it the second such incident in the last five days, news agency ANI reported. The flight landed safely and has been declared grounded. All the passengers on the flight were safe and IndiGo has ordered a detailed investigation into the matter.

“Flight 6E6595, operating from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad experienced a tail strike while landing in Ahmedabad. The aircraft was declared grounded at Ahmedabad airport for necessary assessment and repairs. The incident is under investigation by relevant authorities,” a press statement issued by IndiGo said.

Meanwhile, taking note of the matter, the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered the grounding of pilots of the mishap-hit aircraft, officials said.

"A tail strike has been reported. The DGCA has ordered off rostering of pilots," news agency PTI quoted a DGCA official as saying.

Recently, another flight from Kolkata to Delhi experienced a similar tail strike while landing in the national capital.

According to reports, the IndiGo flight 6E-6183 from Kolkata to Delhi was involved in a tail strike while landing at Delhi.

"During approach on runway 27, the crew felt that they floated longer than normal and initiated a go-around. During the go-around manoeuvre, probably the bottom of the tail portion of the aircraft touched the runway surface and sustained damages," DGCA said in a statement.

In a statement, as per ANI, the airline said, the IndiGo Kolkata-Delhi flight which had experienced a tail strike during landing in Delhi on 11th June was declared grounded for necessary assessment and repairs. The incident is under investigation by relevant authorities.

Earlier, an IndiGo Airlines flight from Amritsar to Ahmedabad strayed into Pakistan near Lahore due to bad weather and went up to Gujranwala before heading back to Indian airspace without any mishap, according to reports.
