The Union Defence Ministry in a release said the “Indian Army mountaineers from the Ladakh Scouts Regiment will attempt scaling APSARASAS I, APSARASAS II, APSARASAS III, PT-6940 and PT-7140 simultaneously”.

“The ceremony at the base camp was attended by the troops deployed in Siachen base camp and local Indian Army veterans,” the release added.

This comes as the Indian Army organises a Siachen Glacier Trek between August and September every year for around 30 selected civilians recommended by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

This is the only chance for a civilian to visit the world’s highest and coldest battlefield.
