Over 6,000 Security Personnel Deployed For ICC Cricket World Cup Final In Ahmedabad
Over 6,000 security personnel are set to be deployed in Ahmedabad city and the Narendra Modi stadium during the highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia on November 19, news agency PTI reported. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles are expected to attend the grand finale at the Motera area of the city, as announced by Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police GS Malik.
Addressing the press, Malik outlined extensive security arrangements involving personnel from Gujarat police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), home guards, and others. The measures are designed to accommodate the movement of over one lakh spectators and the presence of various dignitaries at the stadium. Of the 6,000 deployed personnel, nearly 3,000 will be stationed inside the stadium, while others will secure key locations such as hotels housing players and dignitaries, PTI's report mentioned.
One company of RAF will be positioned inside the stadium, with another stationed outside. A temporary command and control centre equipped with a wireless network, operational even during mobile communication failures, has been established inside the venue. On match day, four senior IPS officials of Inspector General (IG) and DIG rank, along with 23 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officials, will supervise and guide the personnel. They will be assisted by 39 assistant commissioners of police and 92 police inspectors, PTI reported.
In preparation for any chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be deployed in the city. Additionally, 10 teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and two teams of Chetak Commandos, an elite unit, will be stationed near the stadium.
Responding to inquiries about potential threats, Malik urged the media not to sensationalise threats from unknown individuals outside India. He emphasised the police's readiness to handle any threats and downplayed the significance of such communications.
Dignitaries expected to attend the final match include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, Minister for Home Affairs and Law of Singapore K. Shanmugam, Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma. The Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran aerobatics team is scheduled to perform an air show ahead of the game.
The final at the 1.32-lakh capacity stadium is scheduled to start at 2 pm. The Indian team enters the match unbeaten in the tournament, having won all 10 matches played so far.
The match, amidst this elaborate security arrangement, promises an electric atmosphere with over a lakh spectators, including various politicians and celebrities, attending. The state government has coordinated efforts to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and traffic management during this high-profile event.
