'India Firmly Confronting Challenge Of Terrorism': Jaishankar Amid India-Pak Tensions

India's EAM calls for zero tolerance to terrorism as Operation Sindoor targets nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and PoJK.

In an event today in Delhi, External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, addressing a diplomatic gathering, called for a unified global stand against terrorism, asserting that the challenge requires "zero tolerance." He emphasized the need for a decisive and coordinated response, stating, “We are gathered today at a time when India is firmly confronting the challenge of terrorism. We believe that this is a shared threat for which there must be zero tolerance. I thank all those who have expressed solidarity with us and recognised the need for a resolute response."

The remarks come in the wake of the Indian Armed Forces launching ‘Operation Sindoor’, a targeted military strike against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, which hit nine key sites, was a direct response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were brutally murdered.

Precision Strikes, Measured Response

Military sources have confirmed that the strikes were focused, measured, and explicitly non-escalatory, avoiding Pakistani military installations and instead focusing solely on terrorist networks. This demonstrates India’s intent to act with restraint while ensuring accountability for those responsible for the recent attacks.

Adding to the rising tension, on Thursday night, multiple Pakistani drones were reportedly sighted in the Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot sectors. In response, a complete blackout was enforced in Jammu, with sirens sounding across the region as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, on the 15th, Pakistan attempted to breach Indian airspace using 400-500 drones across 15 border cities, all of which were shot down by India's robust Air Defence systems, demonstrating a high level of preparedness.

As India continues to fortify its defense posture, the EAM also emphasized the importance of building stronger international partnerships. “So, let me conclude by conveying my best wishes for India's stronger ties with Europe and for Europe's own progress and prosperity. I am looking forward to visiting my EU counterparts and engaging Member States in the coming days. Thank you, Ambassador, once again for inviting me here today. Namaskar,” he concluded.
