INDIA Bloc Meeting On July 19, Oppn Gears Up To Corner Govt On Pahalgam, Bihar Roll Revision In Parliament

The INDIA bloc will meet on July 19th in Delhi to strategize for the upcoming Monsoon Parliament session. Leaders will discuss key issues like electoral roll revisions, national security, and farmers' concerns.

As the Monsoon session of Parliament draws near, the Congress-led INDIA bloc has scheduled a crucial meeting on 19 July to chalk out its strategy on pressing national issues. Congress MP K.C. Venugopal confirmed in a post on X that the leaders of the alliance will convene virtually at 7:00 pm on Saturday to discuss the current political atmosphere.

While an online meeting is planned, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav announced that a physical gathering of the INDIA bloc would also take place at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s Delhi residence on the same day. Addressing a press conference in Patna, Yadav stated, “INDIA bloc will hold a meeting at Kharge sahab’s residence in Delhi on 19th July, RJD will participate in that”, news agency PTI reported.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut echoed the plan, revealing that his party has conveyed its agreement with the proposed date. Speaking to the press in Mumbai, he said, “The meeting of INDIA bloc is going to be held in Delhi. Yesterday, we got a call from K C Venugopal Ji…Uddhav Thackeray Ji says that there is a need for a meeting of INDIA bloc. We have picked the date of July 19.”

Agenda: Monsoon Session and BJP Face-Off

The Opposition leaders are expected to deliberate on their collective approach to the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, which is set to begin on 21 July and conclude on 21 August, with a break between 12 and 18 August to accommodate Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day festivities.

The session is anticipated to be contentious, with sharp confrontations likely between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress-led alliance. Among the expected friction points are the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of state elections, questions around Operation Sindoor, and former US President Donald Trump’s claims of having mediated to prevent a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan.

Congress to Raise Pahalgam Attack, Bihar Voter Roll Revision, Women’s Safety

In preparation for the session, senior Congress leaders convened at Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10, Janpath earlier this week. The meeting, chaired by Gandhi in her capacity as Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson, was attended by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari, and other key figures including Jairam Ramesh, K. Suresh, and Manickam Tagore.

According to PTI, sources said the Congress is set to raise a host of critical issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, electoral roll revisions in Bihar, the demand for full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, increasing crimes against women, farmers’ grievances, unemployment, national security, and the Ahmedabad air crash.

An all-party meeting convened by the government is also likely to take place on Sunday, adding to the build-up ahead of what promises to be an intense Parliamentary session.
