Intense Heatwave Over North, Central India To Subside Soon; Delhi To Likely Get Thunderstorm On This Date

The Vice President of Meteorology And Climate Change at Skymet Weather, said that Delhi-NCR might possibly witness a dust storm or thunderstorm on either Saturday or Sunday.

As the national capital witnessed blistering heat on Tuesday with several parts of Delhi sizzling as temperatures soared to around 50 degrees Celsius, there might be a short-term relief ahead for the people in Delhi-NCR on June 1 or June 2.

The Vice President of Meteorology And Climate Change at Skymet Weather, told news agency PTI about the possibility of a dust storm or thunderstorm on either Saturday or Sunday.

“There is a possibility of a dust storm or thunderstorm on June 1 or June 2, bringing some relief. However, this will be a short-term relief,” he said.

Here are IMD's weather forecast updates for the upcoming days:

According to IMD, most parts of Rajasthan and some parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, some parts of Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh will witness heat wave to severe heatwave conditions on May 29. 

Thereafter, isolated heatwave is likely to prevail over Punjab during May 30-June 2.

The weather department also stated that the heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to reduce gradually over Central and North India from May 30 onwards.

During May 29-31, isolated pockets of Bihar and Jharkhand will witness heat wave to severe heatwave conditions, while Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jammu division, will witness heatwave on May 29 and 30.

Heatwave is likely to prevail in Himachal Pradesh on May 29 and in Odisha on May 29 and 30, IMD said.

Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, will very likely witness warm night conditions during May 30 and June 2, and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh will also very likely face similar nights on May 29.  

Delhi Faces Severe Heatwave As Temp Nears 50 Degrees Mark

On Tuesday, Delhi reeled under intense heatwave and the hot winds flowing from Rajasthan compounded to people's misery in the capital, especially the outskirts that witnessed very high temperatures.

According to the India Meteorlogical Department, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Delhi for the next few days.

The city's Safdarjung observatory recorded its highest temperature on May 28, at 45.8 degreesw Celsisu, which was five notches above the seasonal average.

On the capital's outskirts, the temperatures on Tuesday in Mungeshpur and Narela was recorded at 49.9 degrees Celsius, nine notches above normal.

The mercury in Najafgarh rose to 49.8 degrees Celsius, while Pitampura and Pusa recorded 48.5 degrees Celsius.
