'Hope Modi Govt Has At Least Learned Something For Future': Sonia Gandhi On Farm Laws Roll Back

The decision to scrap the farm laws came five months before the five states including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh's assembly elections were scheduled to be conducted. 

New Delhi: Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi on Friday called the Centre's decision of scrapping three farm laws as a victory of truth, justice, and non-violence.

While stating that in democracy, every decision should be made after the consultations of every stakeholder including the opposition, Sonia Gandhi said, "I hope the Modi Govt has at least learned something for the future."

"Today, the conspiracy hatched by those in power against farmers & labourers has lost & so has the arrogance of dictatorial rulers. Today, the conspiracy to attack livelihood & agriculture has been defeated. Today, Annadatas have won," she further said.

Recalling the sacrifices of more than 700 farmers who laid down their lives, Congress leader said, "Today, the sacrifices of more than 700 farmer families, whose members laid down their lives in this struggle for justice, have paid off."

Apart from Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Maharashtra Home Minister DW Patil both had noted if this decision to scrap the three agricultural was taken earlier a lot more innocent lives of farmers would have been spared.

The decision to scrap the farm laws came five months before the five states including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh's assembly elections were scheduled to be conducted.
