'I Don't Want To Work': UP Govt Employee Quits Job Over Amit Shah's Remarks On Ambedkar

"I do not want to work anymore," he wrote in his resignation letter dated December 19. Sharma said he has been in service for the last 38 years and there is still some time left for his retirement.

An employee of Uttar Pradesh's Jal Kal Department has resigned blaming Union Amit Shah's remarks on BR Ambedkar during his speech in Lok Sabha. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, a clerk posted at zone 3 in the Tajganj ward of Agra said the statement "shook" his confidence.

"I do not want to work anymore," he wrote in his resignation letter dated December 19.

Sharma said he has been in service for the last 38 years and there is still some time left for his retirement, as per a report published in ETV Bharat. "A person should not be judged by his/her caste or religion. Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was honoured with Bharat Ratna and using indecent language for him is an insult to a national hero of the country," he wrote.

I Don't Want To Work': UP Govt Employee Quits Job Over Amit Shah's Remarks On Ambedkar

The news report quoted the man saying that if Shah, being the Home Minister, speaks inappropriately about a national hero, it will set a bad precedence.

What Did Amit Shah Say On Ambedkar?

While taking a swipe at the Opposition, Shah had said, "Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar'. If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)."

Congress alleged that the remarks show that the BJP and the RSS leaders have a "lot of hatred" for Ambedkar and demanded an apology from him. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had said those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely be at odds with Ambedkar.
