Hyderabad: Kidney Racket Uncovered, Private Hospital Sealed In Ranga Reddy District
As per police and health department officials, the hospital allegedly lured kidney donors from other states and brought in external doctors to perform the transplants.

An illegal kidney transplant racket was busted at Alaknanda Multi Specialty Hospital in Saroornagar of Ranga Reddy district. According to authorities, the hospital, which was authorised only for general medical services and minor surgery had been performing unauthorised and illegal kidney transplants.
As per police and health department officials, the hospital allegedly lured kidney donors from other states and brought in external doctors to perform the transplants. The racket reportedly generated massive profits with kidneys being sold for up to Rs 50 lakh.
A raid conducted on Tuesday evening by health department officials aided by police uncovered evidence of two women from Tamil Nadu lured into donating their kidneys. Later, the kidneys were transplanted into two patients from Karnataka. Upon discovery, both the donors and recipients were immediately shifted to the government-run Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.
The hospital’s managing director, Sumanth Chari, along with other staff members, has been arrested. The police revealed that the hospital, inaugurated just six months ago, had authorisation to perform only minor surgeries. However, it was found conducting complex procedures such as kidney transplants without proper permissions.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimhan has taken serious note of the incident and ordered swift action. A case has been registered at Saroornagar Police Station following a complaint by Deputy District Medical and Health Officer Geeta, as per a report on IANS.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Saroornagar) Krishnaiah and Rangareddy District Medical and Health Officer B. Venkateshwar Rao spearheaded the raid, sealing the hospital and collecting evidence. Investigations are ongoing to identify other possible links and ensure justice for the victims of this racket.
