As J-K Rocked By Terror Attacks, HM Amit Shah Reviews Security Situation, Calls High-Level Meeting On June 16

Amit Shah called for a high-level meeting on June 16, which will be attended by NSA Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, and top officials from the Army, CRPF.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following several terror attacks incidents, including an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims, news agency PTI reported citing sources.

He called for a high-level meeting on June 16, which will be attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, and top officials from the Army, CRPF, and other agencies to assess the prevailing situation in the Union Territory and measures taken to address terror incidents, the report said.

During Sunday's meeting, the Home Minister also planned to review the preparedness for the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on June 29, the PTI report said.

As per the report, Shah was briefed on the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the actions taken in response to recent terror incidents. Over the past four days, terrorists struck at four locations in the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims, and a CRPF jawan, and injuring seven security personnel and several others.

Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathua district where a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered.

On Sunday, terrorists opened fire on a 53-seater bus carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine from the Shiv Kishori temple. The bus, carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, plunged into a gorge after the gunfire, killing nine people and injuring 41 others.

On Tuesday, terrorists fired at a joint checkpost of the Rashtriya Rifles and police at Chattergalla in Bhaderwah, while a search party in the Gandoh area of Doda district was attacked on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to seven security personnel.

The ongoing search operation in Jammu and Kashmir aimed at tracking and neutralising terrorists after the June 9 attack, the PTI report said citing officials.

Security forces launched a fresh search and cordon operation in Kathua's Saida Sukhal village on Thursday, following information about the presence of two more terrorists. This followed an earlier operation that killed two suspected Pakistani terrorists and a CRPF jawan in the same village after an over 15-hour standoff.

A large amount of cache of arms and ammunition, including an M4 Rifle, an AK assault rifle, a satellite phone, and over Rs 2.10 lakh, along with Pakistan-made eatables, medicines, and electronics, was recovered from the slain terrorists, one of whom was identified as a top commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit.
