Ministry Of Home Affairs Points To Tirumala Security Concerns, Urges Andhra Govt To Act Promptly

The MHA underlined the critical importance of maintaining robust security measures at Tirumala, which draws millions of devotees from across the globe every year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has officially urged the Andhra Pradesh government to address reported security concerns at the revered Tirumala temple, following a complaint from YSRCP MP Maddila Gurumoorthy.

In a letter dated April 17, 2025, as assessed by ABP Live, the Ministry forwarded the MP's complaint to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, requesting a thorough review of the alleged lapses. The MHA underlined the critical importance of maintaining robust security measures at Tirumala, which draws millions of devotees from across the globe every year.

Acknowledging the concerns raised, the Home Ministry highlighted the critical need to ensure safety at one of India’s most revered and frequently visited pilgrimage sites. The onus is now on the state government to address these issues and implement the required measures to enhance security in Tirumala.

Political Tensions

Earlier, the MP also alleged repeated reports of illegal activities in Papavinasanam atop Tirumala hills through a senior forest officer’s disclosure.

Adding fuel to the fire, former TTD Chairman and YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy accused the current state administration of gross mismanagement at the TTD-run gaushala. Reddy alleged that over 100 cows had died in the past three months, blaming negligence by the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) dismissed these accusations as "baseless" and "politically motivated propaganda", asserting that the facility operates under strict supervision and that any isolated incidents were being investigated.

Tensions escalated further when Karunakar Reddy, MP Gurumoorthy, and several supporters staged a roadside protest after being barred by police from inspecting the gaushala. The protest turned into a symbolic standoff between the opposition and the state government, underscoring deep political divisions over temple administration and transparency.
