Haryana Govt Mandates 'Jai Hind' In Schools Instead Of ‘Good Morning’, Know All About This Move

In an initiative to promote patriotism among students, the Haryana government has mandated schools to replace "Good morning" with "Jai Hind" as a daily greeting, effective from Independence Day.

The Haryana government has issued a circular mandating that from this Independence Day onwards, the greeting 'Good morning' in schools is to be replaced by 'Jai Hind'. This initiative, led by the Haryana government, aims to "instill a strong sense of patriotism and national pride" among students, according to the directorate of school education's circular issued on Thursday.

The circular noted that 'Jai Hind', a phrase coined by Subhas Chandra Bose during the freedom struggle of India, was later adopted as a salute by the armed forces after Independence.

The directive was sent to all district education officers, elementary education officers, block education officers, principals, and headmasters. It emphasised that the shift from 'Good morning' to 'Jai Hind' is planned to "inspire students daily with a sense of national unity" and foster "respect for the country's rich history."

'Jai Hind' Will Appreciate Sacrifices Made For India's Freedom: Haryana Govt

The use of the patriotic greeting 'Jai Hind' is expected to help students appreciate the sacrifices made for the freedom of India, the circular stated. It also mentioned that 'Jai Hind' transcends regional, linguistic, and cultural differences, promoting unity among students from varied backgrounds.

The regular use of 'Jai Hind' will instill a sense of discipline and uniformity among students, the circular added. It also highlighted that 'Jai Hind' is a recognised greeting among the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police forces, all of which are known for their discipline.

Incorporating traditional greetings into the daily routine bolsters cultural heritage and respect for national traditions, the circular added. It further noted that "this greeting is both inspirational and motivational, reminding students of their potential to contribute to the progress of the nation. 'Jai Hind' is a source of inspiration for young Indians which encourages them to contribute positively to the development of India."
