Congress Moves No Confidence Motion Against Haryana Govt; Parties Issue Whip To MLAs As Trust Vote On Wednesday

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party - Jannayak Janta Party and the Congress have issued whips to their respective members for their compulsory presence in the House.

Chandigarh: Amid the ongoing farmers' protest against three contentious agri laws passed by the Centre last year, Haryana's Opposition party Congress has moved a no-confidence motion against the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government which will be taken up during state's Budget session in Parliament on March 10 (Wednesday).

As per reports, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party - Jannayak Janta Party and the Congress have issued whips to their respective members for their compulsory presence in the House.

Congress' move to demand a trust motion is touted to be an attempt to unsettle the BJP-JJP dispensation in Haryana and win confidence of farmers by projecting the incumbent government as "anti-farmers". However, the party has claimed that Khattar government has lost trust of voters and MLAs.

Congress has also claimed that two independent MLAs who were supporting BJP-JJP alliance in Haryana have withdrawn their support and even said that some members of ruling dispensation said that its the most corrupt government

The no-trust motion moved by former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Haryana assembly and signed by 23 Congress MLAs, was approved by the Speaker, Gian Chand Gupta, last week.

"Haryana govt has lost the trust of people, MLAs and independent candidates supporting them have also stepped back. No confidence motion will be presented and voting will be done. Many faces will be unmasked. It is opposition's job to raise people's voice," Hooda said while speaking to reporters.

Even Haryana minister and BJP's chief whip Kanwar Pal said that all the members of the Bharatiya Janata Legislature Party are requested to remain present in the House throughout the 10th day of March during the current budget session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha. BJP's alliance partner the JJP also issued a whip to its legislators.

In the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly, currently having an effective strength of 88 members, the ruling BJP has 40 members, the JJP 10 and the Congress 30. Seven members are Independents, five of whom are supporting the government, while one member is of the Haryana Lokhit Party, who has also extended support to the government.
