Haryali Teej 2020: Date, Time, Rituals; All That You Need To Know About Monsoon Festival

The festival of Teej is widely celebrated by married Hindu women in Northern and Western parts of India to pray for the well-being of their spouses.  The word 'haryali' means greenery and represents the monsoon season, a time when downpour brightens up the surroundings. The day celebrates the determination of Goddess Parvati who took 108 re-births until Lord Shiva gave in to her dedication and tied the nuptial knot with her. Many believe that on this day the Goddess declared that fasting and performing certain rituals will bless women with a happy married life. Tritiya Tithi Beginning Time: 7:22 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 Tritiya Tithi Ending Time: 5:03 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2020 Teej Celebrations And Rituals: To mark the celebrations, women on this day dress up in traditional attires. While the way of celebration may vary from state to state, there are certain things without which 'Teej' is incomplete. And one of such things is the colour 'Green'. Going just the way what the name 'Haryali teej' suggests, women usually wear green bangles, green sarees/suits, get together to ride swings and listen to old folklore of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Not to forget, food is the 'haryali' of every festival in India. Markets in the North during Teej are full of Ghewar which is the most commonly savoured sweet on the day. Other sweet delicacies made on this day include kheer, malpua and halwa.
