Goa Sunburn Festival Under Fire For 'Hurting' Religious Sentiments Over Display Of Lord Shiva's Pic

AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar told reporters that Lord Shankar’s image was used during the festival and it was flashed on the LED screen when people were drunk and dancing.

Goa Sunburn Festival is in the news and for no good reason Congress and Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) have sought action against the organisers of the Sunburn EDM festival for hurting religious sentiments claiming that Lord Shiva's image was displayed during the event. Congress leader Vijay Bhike filed a police complaint at Mapusa on Friday night against the organisers of Sunburn, reported news agency PTI.

Sunburn EDM is a popular electronic dance music festival, that began on December 28 at Vagator in North Goa and concluded on Saturday, December 30.

In his complaint to the Mapusa police station, Congress leader Bhike said, "The organisers have intentionally insulted the religious feelings of Hindus by portraying that Lord Shiva supports drinking alcohol, consumption of prohibited substances and all other illicit activities that take place during the event."

Meanwhile, AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar said the state government should take action against them for hurting “Sanatan Dharma”.

Taking on X, he said: "People drinking alcohol and dancing to loud music and my lord Shiva’s pics used in derogatory manner flashing on screen at EDM Festival hurts my Sanatan Dharma @DrPramodPSawant and you should immediately register FIR against @SunburnFestival for using my god for festival which promotes alcohol. @DGP_Goa take notice of this cognisable offence."

According to news agency ANI, Palekar told reporters that Lord Shankar’s image was used during the festival. "It was flashed on the LED screen when people were drunk and dancing, he added.

"The use of our God for the purpose of the EDM festival where alcohol is served is not right. We have called up the director general of police demanding registration of an offence against Sunburn festival organisers," he added, quoted PTI.

Police said they have received a complaint from Congress and are looking into it.

7 From Mumbai Held For Stealing High-End Mobile Phones At Sunburn Festival

The Goa police on Saturday arrested seven members of a gang for allegedly stealing high-end mobile phones worth Rs 25 lakh during the Sunburn festival. According to deputy superintendent of police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi, police sized 29 mobile phones of different brands, which the accused, all hailing from Mumbai, stole from concertgoers during the three-day festival.

He said the police received complaints about mobile phone thefts since the music festival began on December 28. "The Anjuna police were already prepared for such incidents and policemen in plain clothes were deployed at the venue to keep a watch on such elements," the official said, quoted PTI.
