Goa Assembly Election 2017 Date: Single-phase Polling on February 4, results on March 11

New Delhi:  The Election Commission on Wednesday held a press briefing and announced dates of assembly elections which are going to take place in five states namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.  The countings of all the 5 poll bound states will be done on March 11. The Goa Legislative Assembly election, 2017 will be held to elect the 40 members of the Goa Legislative assembly, as the term of current Legislative Assembly ends on March 18, 2017. Here is the schedule of assembly elections to Goa as announced by the ECI a while ago.
  • The election will be held in a single phase in the state with 470 constituencies.
  • The date of polling in Goa is February 4, 2017.
  • The date of notification is January 11.
  • The last date for making nominations is January 18.
  • The completion of scrutiny of nominations will be on January 19.
  • The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 21.
The last election in the state had resulted in a 21 seat majority to the Bhartiya Janata Party led by Manohar Parrikar. Parrikar was elected as the Chief Minister. But in 2014, he had to resign due to being nominated as Minister of Defence. After which, Laxmikant Parsekar took oath as the Chief Minister and as Parrikar's successor. (With inputs from Wikipedia)
