Coronavirus: Four-Month-Old Beats Virus After 18 Day Battle; Here’s A Look At Other Young Covid Warriors

A four-month-old from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh recovered from Covid-19 after being on a ventilator for 18 days. She joins the league of other young patients who beat the odds and made a full recovery.

New Delhi: A four-month-old COVID 19 patient was discharged on Friday after a tough battle with coronavirus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The baby was found positive after his mother got infected with the virus. According to a report by news agency ANI, the mother who belongs to the tribal community in East Godavari had tested positive in May. “A tribal woman of East Godavari named Laxmi was infected with COVID-19 in May, later the doctors confirmed that her four-month-old baby was also infected," said District Collector, Vinay Chand in a report by ANI.

The baby who soon got infected with the virus was shifted to the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) on May 25. There she was kept on a ventilator for almost 18 days.

"The baby was shifted to Visakhapatnam VIMS hospital on May 25. She was treated for 18 days on a ventilator. Doctors again conducted baby's COVID-19 test recently, following which the reports came negative. After a health check-up, VIMS doctors discharged the baby on Friday evening," said Chand in the report.

There have been several cases where babies have made a full recovery giving hope to everyone as the cases of coronavirus continue to rise in India.

  • 36-day old baby from Maharashtra- Last month a 36-day old baby from coronavirus hotspot Maharashtra made a full recovery from COVID-19. The video which shows the mother and child leaving the hospital while doctors and medical staff cheer them was also shared by the Chief Minister’s office on Twitter.
  • Newborn twins from Gujarat- Gujarat’s youngest coronavirus patients were newborn twins from Mehsana district. Their mother a resident of Molipur village has tested positive before birth. The brother and sister tested positive for the virus, while the infant boy tested positive on May 18, the baby girl emerged positive on May 22. According to a report by PTI, both recovered and tested negative by May 29.
  • 12-day-old baby from Bhopal- The baby girl who was born on April 7, tested positive for the virus when she was just 9 days old. The PTI report said that she was discharged after testing negative in May. The family has named her 'Prakriti' (nature) as she won the battle against the pandemic.
