Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal are the co-founders of India’s giant E-commerce website Flipkart and no, they are not related.
New Delhi: While everybody is talking about the big success story of Flipkart, the Indian firm that hatched as a start-up, let us get to know the men who made this possible.
- Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal are the co-founders of India’s giant E-commerce website Flipkart and no, they are not related.
- The two co-incidentally happen to share the same surname, but they are not related to each other. However it is not just the surname that is common.
- Both Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal are from Chandigarh.
- They graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, from computer science stream.
- They both worked at Amazon together for a period of six months before calling it quits.
- Their initial plan was to launch a comparison search engine but they realised that India had a very small market for e-commerce. They founded Flipkart in 2007.
- Flipkart was started as an online books selling platform in a two-bedroom apartment .The firm that just struck a thundering deal with Walmart had started with initial investment of just Rs 4 lakhs.
- Initially Sachin and Binny Bansal used to deliver books across Bangalore. The first book sells on Flipkart's platform - John Wood's 'Leaving Microsoft to Change the World'. Flipkart registered 20 shipments in the year of its debut.
- In 2010, Flipkart pioneered 'Cash on Delivery' in India, changing the way India shops online.
- 2017 turns out to be a watershed year for Flipkart as company crosses the 100 million registered users mark. Today, it has over one lakh registered sellers and 21 warehouses.
- As Walmart bought Flipkart, its CEO on Wednesday confirmed Sachin Bansal’s exit but also said there are no other major changes in the leadership.
