Five BSF Jawan Killed In Fratricidal Incident At Amritsar Camp

New Delhi: A BSF jawan on Sunday allegedly opened fire at a military camp, killing four of his comrades and injuring another at Amritsar camp.

"The accused constable Sateppa S K was also killed in the fratricidal incident that took place between 9:30 and 9:45 AM in the campus of the 144th battalion in Khasa area of the district, about 12-13 km short of the Attari-Wagah border crossing along the India-Pakistan international front," an officer was quoted by PTI in its report.

However, it remained unclear if the accused jawan fired the gun himself or was shot by others.

According to officials, the accused was evidently disgruntled about his duty hours and even fired rounds at the commanding officer's vehicle parked on campus.

In a tragic occurrence, five BSF troopers were slain near a fratricidal incident at a military camp in Amritsar, according to a BSF spokeswoman.

The sixth jawan is in serious condition and has been brought to a hospital.

Personnel in the ranks of constable and chief constable have been among the victims.

A court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the facts, according to the spokeswoman.

"Senior officers of the border force and Punjab Police were at the spot," they said.
