Shehla Rashid Responds To FIR Filed By Her Father Alleging Death Threats And Anti-National Activities

In the letter addressed to the Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh, Rashid claimed that he is being threatened to death by his daughter and anti-national activities were going on in his house and Shehla was involved in 'notorious activities’.

A complaint has been filed against Shehla Rashid, former vice-president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University. student union and leader of Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement, by her father Abdul Rashid, in which he claimed to be facing death threats from her daughter and asked for security, on Monday. In the letter addressed to the Director-General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh, Rashid claimed that he is being threatened with death by his daughter and anti-national activities were going on in his house and Shehla was involved in 'notorious activities’. Abdul in his complaint alleged that her daughter has taken a sum of Rs 3 crore from ‘notorious people’ to join Kashmir-centric politics. He has demanded that the mysterious financial transactions between Sheroh Pirza, Zahoor Vatali (arrested by the NIA), and Rashid Engineer and the bank accounts of Shehla should also be investigated. While talking to the media, Abdul Rashid Shora said that her daughter in 2017 jumped into Kashmir Politics, which came a surprise for him. Referring to the inflow of cash, Rashid alleged that the money for the anti-national activities comes from the outside. Rashid also asked authorities to scrutinize the NGO run by her daughter in order to get the trail of funding. Shehla’s reaction to the complaint Following the complaint, the former student leader took to Twitter and described the whole case as a family matter. In her tweet, she alleged her father as an abusive, wife beater, and profane man. Who has been restrained by the court to meet the family? “To keep it short and straight, I say that he is a wife-beater and an abusive, profane man. We have finally decided to take action against him. Shehla said that it is not a political matter, because it has been going on since I came to my senses. He said that in 2005, he had sent a letter to the Mohalla Committee asking them not to abuse us. Shehla said in his clarification that his father never thought in his dreams that his obedient wife and timid daughters would ever speak against him. Since they were prevented from entering the house by the Honorable Court, they are trying to derail the judicial process by resorting to such cheap stunts,” her note with the tweet quoted. She also shared a letter from Mohalla Committee from 2005, asking him not to abuse the family. She also wrote that; her father has been engaging in such cheap stunts to de-rail the judicial process of the Supreme Court which has ordered to restrain him from the family. “He had never, in his wildest dreams, imagined that his obedient wife and timid daughters would ever speak up against him. Since he was restrained from entering the home by the Hon'ble Court, he's trying to derail the judicial process by resorting to cheap stunts,” she said in a tweet. Earlier controversies of Shehla Rashid The former JNU student and Kashmiri activist have always been found under controversy since her fame grew in the media. Rose in prominence whilst leading the student agitation calling for the release of Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, and others who were arrested on charges of sedition in February 2016 for participating and organizing in sloganeering. In February 2017, Aligarh Muslim University Student Union (AMUSU) filed an FIR against the student leader, alleging that a Facebook post she had made used objectionable language about Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. While On 27 October 2018, Shehla Rashid welcomed newly converted Irish singer Shuhada’ Davitt into a Muslim community which generated online backlash. In February 2019, Dehradun Police filed an FIR against her for a tweet she posted on 16 February 2019 where she had written "15-20 Kashmiri girls trapped in a hostel in Dehradun for hours now. mobs outside are baying for their blood. Police are present but unable to disperse the mob." Police dismissed her allegation as a rumor. The FIR was filed under sections 504, 505, and 153b of the Indian Penal Code And, in August 2019, she tweeted that the Indian Army was torturing Kashmiris as a consequence of the Indian revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
