FIR Against 6 Policemen In Jharkhand After Infant Dies From Getting Crushed Under Police Boot
The FIR against the policemen was registered after the postmortem report mentioned “rupture of the spleen” of the four-day-old infant, an official said on Thursday.
New Delhi: An FIR has been filed against six police officers, and five of them have been suspended, following the death of an infant who was allegedly crushed under police boots during a raid in Jharkhand's Giridih district, reported news agency PTI.
The FIR against the policemen was registered after the postmortem report mentioned “rupture of the spleen” of the four-day-old infant, an official said on Thursday.
"An FIR has been lodged against six policemen including two officers - Sangam Pathak and S K Mandal - in the case with Deori police station in Giridih… Five of them have been suspended," the official was quoted by the news agency.
A team of doctors conducted the autopsy under the supervision of a magistrate with proper videography.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the police personnel went to a house to arrest two persons when the incident occurred in Koshodinghi village which comes under Deori police station.
"It has been alleged that a four-day-old boy died when the police went there to execute two non-bailable warrants issued by the court," Giridih SP Amit Renu told PTI on Wednesday.
Renu said four to five policemen had gone to execute non-bailable warrants against Bhushan Pandey, grandfather of the deceased, and another person.
"If the allegation is found to be true, the erring personnel will not be spared," Renu had said.
“I managed to flee when the police came knocking around 3.20 am today. My other family members also moved out. The child was sleeping on a bed inside one of the rooms. The policemen stepped on to the bed looking for me and trampled the child. When my family members went inside the room later, they saw the child dead,” Bhushan Pandey was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren had ordered a probe into the incident after a video went viral in which a person, apparently Pandey, is seen claiming that police personnel raided his home at 3.20 am, and they opened the door using force.
The police said that further investigation is underway.
