Centre To Hold Second Round Of Talks With Farmers Today Ahead Of 'Delhi Chalo' March

As farmers begin their march towards Delhi, Centre has agreed to hold a second round of talks on Monday with a delegation representing farmers.

As farmers begin their march towards Delhi, Centre has agreed to hold a second round of talks on Monday with a delegation of leaders representing the protesting farmers.

A team of three Union Ministers will meet the farm leaders as convoys of tractor-trolleys have already set out from different parts of Punjab to join the farmers' protest, the PTI reported.

According to the report, Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand Rai will arrive in Chandigarh on Monday to hold a second round of talks with a delegation of farm leaders to discuss their demands. The meet will be held at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in the evening around 5 pm.

Earlier, the three ministers held the first round of talks with the delegation of farmer leaders on February 8.

The farmers have sought a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP), implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver, and withdrawal of police cases registered during 2021 protests. They have also sought justice for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Anticipating a rewind of 2021 agitation by farmers, the Haryana authorities have already fortified the state borders that touch Punjab at Ambala, Jind, Fatehabad and Kurukshetra with concrete blocks, iron nails and barbed wires ahead of 'Delhi Chalo' march by farmers on February 13.

Section 144 has been imposed by Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments in border areas, prohibiting the assembly of five or more people or any kind of demonstration or march with tractor-trolley.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announced that more than 200 farm unions would head to Delhi on February 13 to press the Centre to accept their demands.
