Erode East By Election Result 2025: DMK's VC Chandhirakumar Leads In Early Trends, NTK's Seethalakshmi Trailing

Erode East By Election Result 2025: The bypolls saw a direct contest between DMK's candidate VC Chandhirakumar and Tamil nationalist party NTK's Seethalakshmi since AIADMK and other parties abstained.

Erode East By Election Result 2025: As the counting of votes started on Saturday, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate VC Chandhirakumar established a lead in the Erode East by-election, according to early trends reported at 10 AM. The counting of votes is currently underway at Chithode Government College in Erode.

The by-election was necessitated by the passing of Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan.

By the end of round 2, DMK's VC Chandhirakumar secured 18, 873 votes and Naam Tamizhar Katchi candidate MK Seethalakshmi secured 2,234.

The authorities ensured robust security measures for the bypoll, with a four-tier security system in place at the strong room where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored. Nine polling booths, identified as sensitive, saw additional deployment of security personnel to ensure a smooth and fair election process.

After the voting ended on Feburary 5, all EVMs from 237 polling stations were transported to the Institute of Road and Transport Technology in Chitode, where the counting of votes is being held.

The bye-election saw a direct contest between the ruling DMK's candidate VC Chandhirakumar and Tamil nationalist party NTK's MK Seethalakshmi. The AIADMK and other opposition parties abstained from the election.

A total of 46 candidates, including 44 independents, were in the fray. However, the main opposition party, AIADMK, along with other opposition parties, boycotted the polls, narrowing the contest to the DMK and NTK.

The Erode East constituency, with a total of 2,27,546 voters, recorded a turnout of 67.97% this year, down from 74.69% in the 2023 bypoll. In the previous election, Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan emerged victorious, defeating AIADMK's KS Thennarasu by a margin of 66,233 votes. Elangovan's passing in 2025 necessitated the current bypoll.
